Joint presentation OSD-IMT and RH MARINE during Tugnology 2017 in Rotterdam
Rotterdam, 18 May 2017
During Tugnology 2017 on May 24th, Haijo van der Werf (Business Development Manager at Offshore Ship Designers) and Walter van der Pennen (Portfolio manager Hybrid Energy at RH Marine) will jointly present a paper about the advantages of a low-emission hybrid E-tug driven by a revolutionary podded drive with flexible and green hybrid diesel-electric configuration.
The use of greener harbour tugs is becoming ever more important to both contractors and authorities. As a result of new emission rules, the expansion of Emission Control Areas (ECAs), stricter local regulations, public opinion and the need for sustainability, Offshore Ship Designers (OSD-IMT) undertook to design a new energy efficient -- and therefore a low emission -- e-tug, the Azistern-e. For a specific operational profile of a harbor tug, RH Marine designed the power and propulsion system which is optimized towards fuel consumption, running hours, investment cost and how the tug is used by the captain. This has resulted in an economic viable, low emission and user friendly e-tug.
Tugnology '17 will take place in Rotterdam on 23rd and 24th May 2017 at the World Trade Centre and is a unique two day, in-depth conference concentrating on tugs. The ground-breaking, innovative and thought-provoking papers presented at Tugnology provide a detailed and invaluable insight into latest technological ideas and advances in our industry, covering design and construction, economics and operation. As a gathering of industry leaders and executive-level experts from around the world, Tugnology also offers an excellent opportunity for making business deals, networking, renewing old friendships and forging new professional relationships.
